Save Kirkham Swimming Baths

Kirkham Baths

The baths were closed because of a Health and Safety issue but this appears to be a gross manipulation of the situation. There is an electrical fault which the Fylde Borough Council knew about for months but failed to do anything about. The insurance could not be renewed and so our pool has been closed. The cost of fixing the electrical fault is nothing in the grand scheme of things and we want our baths re-opened.

There is a meeting in the Community Centre tomorrow at 5.00 pm.

If no assurance is forthcoming over the re-opening we will open a "Re-open Kirkham Baths " blog. Closing our baths is not the answer and it is not acceptable to the community. The petition is growing and is available in all the shops.

Okay HOLD ON a minute.

Everyone is at risk of being electrocuted but they want to swim anyway?

You guys are a brave lot over there! LOL ;)

If it is a serious health and safety risk now then it was a health and safety risk when they first knew about it and they should have done something about it at the time. The place needs rewiring, Echomouse and they should have done it before now. They are saying that if they shut it they may be able to build a brand new swimming baths. I and others would go along with that but where are they going to get the money from? A "maybe" or in ten years time is no use.

I seen estimates from £18,000 to over 2 million to sort out the existing baths and it is obvious that people are just picking figures off the top of their heads. They need to get a proper estimate - something they now realise they have to do.

This meeting went ahead. Hundreds of people turned up and there would have been many more if the FB Council hadn't put out the word that it had been cancelled. The Fylde Borough council closed the baths at 5 pm on the 17th of January acting upon a report dated 27th July 2005. ??????????
