ScaryCheri hurt, angry and in complete denial as Inner Fonzie reveals that her Squabbit story is a hoax.

This is not clear-cut and the question remains. Does this creature exist? Personally, I think I am coming down on ScaryCheri’s side. She saw, therefore it must be. Squirrels and all other creatures must do all they can to search for the Squabbit.

Cash card kids

Did you know that Nat West now issue cash cards to children of 11 years upward? These cards (Solo) are very much like the Switch cards we have and the kids have pin numbers. They can be used to draw cash from the hole in the wall, or in shops to purchase goods. The only difference is that they cannot overdraw - no money - no goods or cash.
I decided to let my child have possession of one of these cards providing he doesn’t carry it at all times. It is the way the world is going and after all it is his bank account ( in his own name ) and his pocket money. If he spends all his savings he will learn.
The problem - well my child has only had the card for one week and already he has been detained twice by store security staff and the bank have had to authorise the transaction and his release. Luckily my son is not the sort to be bothered by the experiences but he does admit that it is a little embarrassing.
If the banks are going to issue these cards to kids then I really think they should inform the stores. The same thing nearly happen to him again in Azda this morning but luckily I was around. The stores are really going to have to cotton on to the idea of the cash card kid because there is no way, it seems, that my son is going to give up.

The Generosity of

................. my ex-employers is overwhelming.

To my ex-employers,

There really is no need for you to keep adding money to my bank account. There are are number of things I would like to say to you:

1. psst - I've left

2. The pay rise is much appreciated but I am surprised to find that I am worth more to stop at home.

3. Your overall level of efficiency has not improved since my departure. I thought it would. :-)

Google Earth

Wow! A free program from which you can view the earth as it looks from space. View the whole world and then zoom in.

It combines satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google Search. In some areas you can see the buildings, roads and the cars. Depending on where you live, you might be able to see your own house and backyard.

I installed the program last night but I haven't had enough time to experiment with it yet. My son found it this morning and I am now having to book half hour slots on my own computer.

Comments re Shooting

The BBC are asking for comments on the shooting and for those interested in reading them there are a number of comments already on the page.
Sir Ian Blair told Sky News: "This is a tragedy. The Metropolitan Police accepts full responsibility for this. To the family I can only express my deep regrets."

Shot man not connected to bombings.

Fight violence with violence and terrorise the already terrified and you will kill innocent people. It could be a member of your own family.

"This tragedy has added another victim to the toll of deaths for which the terrorists bear responsibility." says Ken Livingstone. NO MR LIVINGSTONE!! The world will not be a better place until people, organisations and nations take full responsibility for their own actions and reactions.

It is summer and a women has got to earn a living anyway she can. It was good fun though. Notice the excellent use of resources and the non-sexist attitude toward women bishops. I would now like to claim no.2 from My50

My 50 Things to do in my Lifetime.

Back to this again.

No. 19 this time. Have a favourite joke and tell it to people. Not my scene but I did it and it's all over now. I can cross it off the list and never have to do it ever again. The joke appeared on Nogbad's View under the heading Fascinating on the 16 July 05. For those who missed it, here it is again.

Two lobsters were sunbathing on the beach. The lady lobster suggested that the gentleman lobster get them an ice cream each. Having purchased two ice cream cones Mr. Lobster made his way back to the beach, deciding on the way to eat his ice cream.

By the time he has finished the ice cream he realised that his lady friend's ice cream had started to melt all down his claw, so he licked it up and ended up eating it.

When he arrived back at the beach his lady lobster friend exclaimed, "Where are the ice creams?"

"Well" he said. "I decided to eat mine. Then yours melted, so I ate that too."

His lady friend was incensed and cried, "How could you be so shellfish!"

It's all over now folks. Oh! go on then I have one more joke:

What do you call a boomerang that doesn't come back? Answer: A stick.

Shopping

Went out shopping with my sister today but as you can see I didn't buy much.

Homeless Kids

Spent the best part of yesterday wondering why I have accepted a part-time contract to work with homeless teenagers. I left home myself at 15. Packed a bag at 10 am but by 5 pm I had a flat, a job and a rent book. The ‘homeless’ experience didn’t last very long really and I had only travelled a distance of 8 miles. Not sure, that Blackpool could be counted as inner city either.

The new black leather briefcase doesn’t look right somehow. Best get myself an embroidered rucksack and a hippie look.

Ah well, it’s done now. Should be interesting work and hopefully rewarding. Best do a bit of research.

In defence of inclusion.

A full-page advert in defence of Inclusion appears in TES. TES On-line . The claim is that Baroness Warnock’s view is distorted and that discrimination is gradually diminishing.

The problem is not in the child and their impairment, but in the social and attitudinal barriers in the education system. The ‘social model’ rather than the outdated ‘medical model’.

...snip...

Defend human rights and defend the right for disabled children and young people to inclusive education.

I couldn’t agree more but the truth is that up to now ‘inclusion’ has been seen and used, despicably, as a cheap option. Children and their parents have suffered.

Many special schools closed down. The children were placed in mainstream schools but the funding, and the expertise did not follow them. Children already in mainstream school and identified, as having an additional need, have not been adequately provided for. The schools have been unable to cope. Parents like myself have forced the LEA to provide for their children, outside the mainstream, but this is not to say that we are against inclusive education if it was adequately funded and if the discriminatory attitudes and training issues were sorted out. Some Local Education Authorities have refused to issue ‘statements’ for children with special needs, which means that these children have not been protected.

Inclusion by all means but not at my child’s expense. Not at any child’s expense.

All children should be adequately supported and their needs met.

Done it!

It takes a clear and carefree mind to obtain this level of simplicity.

Changed Again and Again

I don't seem to have the mental ability to leave this page alone. Perhaps I should just go off and buy a fancy template. On second thoughts, I don't like anything too fancy. A plain white page might be nice. Now where can I find a plain white page with nothing on it but a title. :-)

Ugly Babies!

Mei Mei dies. With all the problems and disasters in the world at the moment I am not sure I should be mourning the death of a Giant Panda but they are an endangered species. The BBC report shows this picture of some new born pandas. They must be the ugliest things I have ever seen. I can't imagine anyone wanting to give one of them a cuddle.

Who needs a Feedreader?

I don't. Go here to generate some JavaScript code. Copy and paste it into a html doc and save it to the desktop. No need to upload it. Every time you click on the file you will get all the information you asked for. You can add as many feeds to the html doc as you like.

You can also add a feed to your web page.

Well! That was one way to learn a bit of CSS I suppose. The page is now almost as I want it.

School Report

My son arrived home with his final end of year, (and end of this school) report. I was afraid to read it but full marks to the school for not going on and on and on about his difficulty in mixing with other children and his reluctance to write. His previous school did nothing but concentrate on and refer to these things and they didn't help one little bit. In fact, it put him under a great deal of stress and held him back. I can't praise his present school enough.

Report in brief - Always a very keen learner who prefers non-fiction.(Excellent results for science, RE, history and geography ) His very keen interest in all religions shows in the lessons. ICT - a very confident user. Can hold detailed conversations about many and varied topics. Often has an answer to a question or a comment to make. A very able and keen reader but a reluctant writer. Developed his knowledge tremendously. Maths - worked hard. :-)

"Has not taken part in any of the music or PE sessions all year." ??? :-(

The report ends. "He has formed some positive relationships and shown a wonderful sense of humour." I bet that is how he got out of the PE and music.

It's not perfect but I am a happy mum.

Mailing Lists

Oh the joy of belonging to a mailing list once all the auto replies “Sorry I am out of the office until ………” start coming in. People are complaining bitterly but this just sparks off another round of auto replies and all the auto replies spark another round of auto replies. It seems impossible to unsubscribe from this list and folk are now complaining about that too. For goodness sake when are they going to realize that the whole thing would slow down and the mods would be able to get a grip on it, if they stopped replying?

I would block it but I am finding the cross-patch messages quite amusing. O00000000000h that last message was very cross.

My 50 Things to do in my Lifetime.

I like this site and I am going to record all progress on this blog. I will work through the list but not in the order given.

Become a parent.

I didn't become a parent until I was 37 years of age. I am not into this growing up lark but I think the biological clock finally set off an alarm. I know this picture doesn't show me at my best but with a child this age to look after what can anyone realistically expect?

First bike ride.

How to get yourself noticed.

Arrive at a Manchester conference centre just that little bit later than everyone else. Collect a freshly brewed black coffee and walk elegantly through the bar to join the others in the sunny garden. Notice the second step, at the door way, but fail to see the one immediately in front of you. Throw the coffee cup up into the air and have its contents rain down on you as you fall flat on your face and smash the saucer on the concrete floor. Remain calm and silent as three men pick you up and allow one of them ( whom you have never met before ) to carry you to a garden seat. Calmly stem the fuss as everyone thinks it would be best to get the first aid box and mop up the blood.

I am now jokingly known as the women who fell out of the bar at 9.35 am, this morning.

Next - Don't stop there. Wait until you are inside and it is your turn to speak. As you rise to your feet reach out to place your glass of water on a nearby table - but allow it to slip through your fingers and shatter on the floor. Watch patiently, in total silence, as two different men pick up the pieces of broken glass and arrange them in a neat little pile on the table . Smile sweetly, say thank you , and start talking as if nothing had happened. Oh the stress of it all - I've got a splitting headache.
For someone who has just lost 20 hours work per week I can't believe how busy I am. I've got to be out of bed by 6am - sigh.

I am going to get a life. I am going to get a life. I swear I am going to get a life.
