Tonight

Met up with a friend who I hadn't seen in a long time. Here she is:

Strange weather out there tonight. Sheet lightening and a warm wind but no rain or thunder.

Luke

Oh you can now upload images to Blogger.

Corner Bookmark

Make a paper bookmark and never lose your place in a book again.

These types of activities are best performed instead of doing a TMA. Well it kept me busy tonight. :-)

Scroll down.

1. Fold a square of paper in half diagonally to form a triangle.
2. Fold in half, crease along the middle line and then unfold.
3. With the longest side of the triangle towards you, take hold of one layer of paper from the top corner and bring this corner down to meet the middle point of the bottom edge of the triangle.
4. Take hold of the bottom left-hand corner of the large triangle and fold this up to the top corner of the triangle. Squash flat. Do the same with the right-hand corner. (The inside edges of these folds should lie side by side on the centre line of the model.)
5. If you place your hand behind the two front flaps, which you have just made and reach down inside the model, you will find a pocket. Fold the two flaps (one at a time) backwards all the way down into the pockets. Squash flat.
The corner of a page should be slipped into the triangle pouch with the triangle showing at the front.

Buddha

My child came home from school with what he says is a Buddha. (I thought it was an ashtray). Very wise of him. He was also in possession of his report and all his school records.

Flower

Ahhhhhhh. My beautiful flower has lost all its petals. I am not very good with plants but this one manages to flower every year. The picture above was taken last year.
The plant is supposed to be carnivorous but as far as I know it has never caught anything. The Venus Fly Trap did but I got rid of it because I couldn't stand to hear things buzzing and fretting inside it.

Thought for the day

'Inclusion’ and ‘Exclusion’ are scary and mis-used words.

‘Inclusion’ is about helping people and giving them the opportunity to participate. It is not the process of finding and sticking to the lowest common denominator and thereby not excluding anyone. It raises standards throughout. It is progression.

‘Exclusion’ happens when people cannot or refuse to help or listen to others – Probably because they have very little confidence, themselves, and/or they do not want to learn.

This post has come about because I vaguely remember a ridiculous conversation at a party yesterday - but what did we know, we had been on the wine all afternoon.

Snake Pass

Over the Pennines to Bamford. Not an easy trip in winter but today was a scorcher.

Freezing Cold

kat

I will continue to sit here in my coat rather than put the heating on. It is the middle of June for heavens sake!

Walked into a heavy hanging basket this morning. When did they put that up?

I have an unsightly buise and lump in the middle of my forehead. The trouble is these things swing and they don't get you just the once. If you don't fall over straight away they bounce right back and get you a second time. :-(

Voice Recorder.

kat

Busy, busy day yesterday. ILT Meeting at the college. Came away with another gadget - Olympus voice recorder W-10. This takes photos as well although they are not of a very good quality - Not too bad it worked on in a photo editor though.

The recorder is good for leaving memos to self. Now I can really hear myself think. :-)

Camera

The camera arrived this afternoon.

The Red Arrows flew over again. Pity I didn't have the zoom camera to hand.

It’s a glorious hot summer day and it’s Wednesday – My favourite day of the week.

Out and about- Been to a little school in a village called Hoghton, near Brindle. Hoghton had a mini tornado rip through it a few weeks back. Some of the villagers lost part of their roofs. Will be off to the college in Chorley later and from there I will probably call to my sisters.

No camera but I found a card behind the door saying that there is a parcel at the depot. Good – it will be camera. Something to look forward to tomorrow.

Red Arrows

The Red Arrows have been over again. They have been flying around for a few days now. I don't know where they are based but I assume they stop off somewhere for their supper. Blackpool or Warton maybe.

Boooooooooo. Felt sure my new digital camera would arrive today. It doesn't help that I have received an email from the suppliers saying that I should have received the goods by now. Never mind - perhaps it will arrive tomorrow.

Beatiful sunny day. Me and Luke could have gone out with the camera.

Bit of a 'nothingless' day today. The only highlight not even worth mentioning was a trip to Tesco for carbohydrate free food. If the 'You are what you eat' theory is correct I am going to end up looking like a chicken - or maybe I will look like the egg. If I carry on at this rate there will be no chickens left on the planet.

Wisdom of the Sands

kat

The Wisdom of the Sands
Revised by Leonard Ingram

A stream, from its source in far away mountains passing through
every kind and description of countryside at last reaches the sands of the desert.
Just as it had crossed every other barrier, the stream tried to cross this one too.
But it found that as it flowed into the sands, its waters simply disappeared.

It was convinced however, that its destiny was to cross
this desert as well, and yet - there was no way.
Now, a hidden voice, coming from the desert itself, whispered:
the wind crosses the desert, and so can a stream.
The stream objected that it was only dashing itself
against the sands and being absorbed; that the wind could fly,
and this was why it could cross the desert, but How can I?

By hurtling in your own accustomed way, you cannot get across.
You will either disappear or become a marsh;
you must allow the wind to carry you over to your destination,
replied the desert. But how can this happen? asked the stream.
By allowing yourself to be absorbed into the wind, the desert replied.

This idea was not acceptable to the stream,
after all - it had never been absorbed before,
it did not want to lose it's individuality!
And once having lost it, how was one to know if it could ever be regained?
The wind, said the whisper, performs this function.

It takes up the water and carries it over the desert and then lets it fall again.
Falling as rain, the water again becomes a river.
But, how can I know that this is true? protested the stream.

It is so! replied the whisper, and if you do not believe it,
you cannot become more than a quagmire,
and even that could take many, many years. In any case,
it will certainly not be the same as being a stream!
But, asked the stream, can I not just stop here
and remain the same stream I am today?

You cannot, in any way, remain the same, whispered the desert sands.
Movement is your very nature. It will never cease until your
true destination has been reached. When the stream deeply considered this,
echoes of the truth began to arise in its mind. Yes, this is true.

He understood that this was the only real and intelligent thing to do.
And the stream raised its vapours into the welcoming arms of the wind,
which gently and easily bore it upwards and along, letting it fall
softly as soon as it reached the roof of the distant mountains.

It was now able to remember its prior dilemma in the desert
and now realized the goal of its long journey,
its true identity and the deathless nature of its true being.
And this is why, it is said, that the way by which the stream of life
crosses the desert of this world, is written in the sands.

Shopping

kat

Went out shopping for some clothes today but couldn't find anything I wanted in the stores. Nothing that was 'me'.

We, my little sister and myself that is, ended up going in a couple of the local charity shops where I managed to find everything that I wanted at a fraction of the price. My sister was amazed at the quality of the stuff. I don't know why I have never taken her in these places before.

Time for Bed

kat

Best get off to bed. Did an excellent job with my todo list today. I didn't touch it at all. Consequently it has got exactly the same number of items on it as it had yesterday. :-)

Supposed to be doing some study today - Later maybe. I could do something off my todo list but I am having a big problem with this list at the moment. Everytime I do something off the list it seems to lead to a plan of some sort and I end up with at least 4 or 5 more items on the list. This is not in keeping with my main aim, which is to keep the todo list short.
