Oh No! I am so stupid :-)

On Monday afternoon, a colleague who is a counsellor mentioned R D Laing in a discussion. I said that I recognised the name but couldn't remember what I knew about him. He started to pressurise me, as he wanted as much information as possible. I repeated myself and said that I knew that I knew something but I really didn't know what it was. I racked my brains and then finally agreed to search through my stuff and come up with something. I've just found it!

Where do I fit into this?!!!

( My colleague wasn't teasing me but he is going to think that I was having him on. I think I will let him believe it.

I'm sure my brain's got holes in it. )

Knowing and Not Knowing. R D Laing.

Do you reckon that's where Rumsfeld got it from?

"as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."

I don't know Bluefluff. :-)

How does Rumsfeld know there are unknown unknowns? You couldn't ever know that. I think he's bluffing.

I tried to read the article but it contained so many iterations of the word 'know' I became a little giddy. No fare for a fried corporate drone on friday evening :)

The wikipedia article was a little more palatable:

Lobster - They are discovering new sea creatures all the time so I suppose it is safe to assume that we don't know what they will find next, but who knows? :-))

Michiel - Oh I don't know, the Wikipedia article seems a bit much for me especially at this time of night. I will pass it on to my friend but I personally will stick to worrying about what people know and don't known, what I know and don't know and what I know I don't know. :-))

I've never heard of this. So imagine how much of a genius I imagine myself to be, knowing I've used these phrases without even knowing it was a legit thing. LOL If that makes sense.

Seriously, this is cool Kat! Thanks for sharing it.

Speaking as a sea creature, if they found a new one, that would just be an unknown one becomming known. An unknown unknown would have to be of the order of finding a whole new sea. That's surely just daft. But it would give me more swimming space.
